Patrick Durkan began his training at the NYAC when he was only five years old and has never looked back. In the past 25 years he has represented the USA on all levels of fencing, including being a part of the Cadet, Junior, and Senior National Teams. As a student of the Hungarian system under Aladar Kogler and a background in the Russian system, Durkan is determined to build a truly American system. He began implementing this system when he became head sabre coach at the NYAC in 2009. His coaching has led to four top-8 finishes in the Senior Women’s and Men’s Team events…and that’s only counting this past Summer Nationals in Atlanta, GA. Durkan plans to continue his fencing education by working with Italy’s national coach and Christian Bauer, the coach who trained Olympic individual champions Aldo Montano and Zhong Man.
